Pandemic Laughter

Pandemic Laughter: ꧁• Never in my wildest dreams have I imagined myself entering a bank, wearing a mask, and asking for money. 😄 ꧁• Never thought my hands would one day consume more alcohol than my liver... ever!😝 ꧁• Lock down seems like a Netflix series: just when you think it's over, they release the next season.ðŸĪĐ ꧁• Many who struggle to wake up early for work found it quite unbelievable and a dream come true  when working from home was the default option. ðŸĪ ꧁• I’m starting to like this mask thing. I went to the supermarket yesterday and two people that I owe money didn’t recognize me. ðŸĪŠ ꧁• Those complaining that we didn’t have enough holidays, what now? 😍 ꧁• I need to social distance myself from my fridge; I tested positive for excess weight! 😋 ꧁• I love the higher standard of hygiene at the hawker centres and coffeeshops nowadays - the food handlers wear facemasks! 😄 ꧁• I like the spaciousness of the seating arrangement at  the eating outlets nowadays, more ...

My mum’s heritage includes Chinese, Thai and Arab, while my dad is Minangkabau. Due to my skin colour, I am often mistaken for a Chinese. I’m happy that I do n’t have the typical Malay look but I do get annoyed when people call me Ah Moi or ask me straight up “Are you Chinese or Malay” Like, why does it matter? Before I used to answer “Malay” but now I’m trying to consciously answer Malaysian instead. There’s this incident from primary school that I remember till today. Someone told me that I will be called last during Judgement Day because I don’t have a Muslim name. Of course, I was scared then but now that I’m older, I realise that a name is just a name. It doesn’t define you as a good or bad perso...

By Hannah Siew (not her real name) We were shocked when we received news from our very close friend Hannah Siew that she was infected with covid19. Not wanting to alarm anyone, she did not inform anyone outside her family. She recounts her story…. How it started On the third day after my covid19 vaccination at the vaccination centre on 5 July, I began to feel unwell. I believe I caught the virus there as I later found out that four others at the centre tested positive. The Covid symptoms that began appearing included a rapidly growing temperature, persistent dry cough and a splitting headache with loss of full taste and smell with fatigue and muscle aches were thrown in.  I was becoming weaker as...
